Search Engine Script / Working with Google, Yahoo, etc

I'm interested in starting my own small little search engine.

I was wondering 2 things:

1) Does anyone recommend a script or solution for running a decent search engine?

2) How does one make relationships directly with Google and Yahoo, (and others) to earn revenue from displaying their search results?

Maybe even a metasearch kind of solution, but working directly with them rather than being an affiliate of someone else.

Anyone know?

MIVA is a very good service and you get full customizable APIs (xml feeds for ppc listings). Unfortunately they require that you must have high traffic to join.

I recommend also to use PeakClick (aff link)
(I joined a year ago)

The company is based in Austria and this guys have a grea service. No traffic limit to join. PeakClick aggregate ppc feeds from multiple ppc search engines (including MIVA) and pay to you 70% of the bids. They also have XML feeds and other scripts to customize your ppc search results. They have two-weeks payments.

It's a good alternative to Google Adsense or YPN
