Hey guys,
Do you use Wiki as a spoke in your traffic generation wheel?
Does it work?

Do you mean Wikipedia.org or a wiki script on your own site to encourage visitor content contribution?
If you mean Wikipedia I've tried that one time -- I added a a very useful, technical forum (the biggest on the net in this niche) I co-own on a very related page, and it still got removed. |

Sorry to hear that.
Yes, I was actually referring to using Wiki on your sites as a way to encourage visitor contribution? Anyone use that?

There's no doubt that it's a powerful techniqiue if it's done right
The trick is to make people WANT to contribute, to make it attractive for them -- look at what Godin did with squidoo -- the concept turns the tables because it is presented as a medium where people can showcase their knowledge rather than just a plain old information site that says "please write for us!" |

I've been thinking of this myself too. Anyone know which scripts are good to use? I've seen a few available.

I've been using PmWiki (http://www.pmwiki.org) for a couple of years now, it's easy to use, needs only PHP and no database, it's free (open source), has a lot of active contributors and many, many extensions (called recipes) and design templates. There's one "recipe" to change the URL display to look like www.example.com/category/article which makes it perfect for search engines.
I (ab)use it mainly as a simple but powerful CMS, with only little knowledge of CSS and HTML it can be modified to fit any design ...
(sorry, I'm no native english speaker, but I'm a fan of Alice, so I had to register and answer immerdiately )
Best,
