I think most will tell you to buy traffic to make sure your site converts.

I usually only create sites that sell hardgoods so I start building links, outsourcing articles, doing JV's, building a mailing list, posting to forums, and then hiring someone in India to submit my site to 500 directories. It starts slow, but after 60-90 days I usually have a good amount of traffic.

1. Search engine and directory submission.

2. Writing targeted articles for targeted traffic.

3. Approach people with mailing lists for JV opportunities. (need a product or useful service)

4. Press release --> depending if the site idea is worth reading about.

5. Affiliates; get people to promote for you and give them a "cut" (if you sell a product).

In no particular order save from number 1 because of the time it takes to get into some of the search engines and directories.

Trisha.

All very good suggestions. Buying traffic initially
will atleast build up your site history for SE's.

Posting and emailing safelists will also bring at
least some visitors. No guarantees on buying anything
though.

Is using Safelist effective?
What are the things to look out for or take note of?

Emailing safelists does work however I try to
only use credit based safelists. They offer an
incentive to the users and you get better
quality traffic. You may PM me for the ones
I use since I don't want to appear to blatantly
advertise.

well my experience with safelists hasnt been so positive. all I get are loads of emails they send to other members, and I've got limited hits from them. I reckon most members dont read these emails anyway and delete them like I do.

Is it worth submitting to 500 directories, given the bulk of traffic comes from Google? Just a thought. Smile

It is going to worth especially if you do it manually overtime also it further depends whether those directories have good PR or not.

Exactly.

For all you know one of the directories that you submit to is a link farm and your site might get delisted from Google! Nasty... Confused

To answer motso, a safelist is where a group of people all agree to recieve each others' promotional emails. In theory, this will increase sales for all parties.

From my experiences, however, safelists have been a huge waste of time. Maybe I'm using the wrong lists, but it seems like all people do is send out emails, no one reads them.
