|
|
Hello!
I'm a newbie and I'm new to this forum. I have a question which might seem dumb, but here goes!
What are Blogs and RSS? I've been seeing these terms mentioned all over the internet as of late and I've never heard of them and was just curious as to what this is all about.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks much,

|
|
Hi,
Blog is just a web diary. That's simple. Depending on the content topic, it will attract the right people to contribute to the topic and become an active forum as well as document certain events relating to the topic.
RSS = Really Simple Syndication, is primary used for feeding news to website or to your desktop, if you download certain programs. The purpose is delivering targeted content. Main purpose of having RSS feed is to avoid Email Spam. My website Http://TopSecretStrategy.com uses RSS Feed to deliver the latest online news on the relevant topics. The experiment has enabled me to improve my Alexa ranking from 1.7M to 112,319 (08/12/2004).
I am still testing out a lot of ideas shared by John. Happy Sharing! _________________ Great Fun!

Hi Lavonne,
I whipped up a little free report a few months back about blogging. You can get it here http://www.getblogs.com/report/
It's gotten rave reviews from a lot of beginning bloggers

Hi TEO,
Hey are you saying that the blog is the reason your Alexa rankings improved so much?
If so, do you need to host the blog on your own site or do you use the feed from a site like eBlogger.com and post it on your site?
The blog thing is new to me but there seems to be a lot of buzz about them. After I read what it did to your Alexa rankings, I'm thinking I should jump on it.
I have 2 sites now with a 3rd in the works. Sounds like I should read Paul's report too. _________________ http://www.treadmill-info.com

Teo,
I would recommend adding a blog to your site vs hosting somewhere else.
A blog on your site is a great way to add content and get traffic to your site. It can be used as a community builder and you can monetize. Also, other related sites may pickup the RSS feed of your blog to present on their site!.

Joseph,
I created a coffee article blog on eBlogger.com . So now I should bring the feed into my coffee site?
I think that's what you are saying but I want to be sure because this is really new to me.
I have an SBI site and it limits you on what you can do. I have an RSS feed from javascript code on my site now.
Would that work? _________________ http://www.fat-burning-secret.com/

Hi Gary,
Actually, using javascript to bring in your feed won't do you much good in the way of SEO because most SE spiders can't read it on your pages.
What you need to do is pipe the feed in using PHP includes.
Drop by http://www.bigbold.com/rssdigest/ and go through the process there. Be sure to choose the option to output your code in PHP/HTML when you get to that option.
Then, after you paste the resulting code into the page on your site, you'll need to rename that page with a .php extension. All that does is tell your server that there's executable code on your page.
Your feed will show up on the page and the content is fully spiderable for the search engines, giving you maximum effectiveness all around.
There's an example of the results of using this system on my site over at http://news.getblogs.com Those headlines are pulled in from http://www.blogherald.com and update automatically every time Duncan adds a new article to his site.

Paul,
Thanks for the advice about javascript and for the neat tool from bigbold.com .
I'll try it out and see if it will work with my SBI site.
These blogs sound like they could bring in a lot of traffic. If it works I've got a couple of other sites I'll build blogs for.
I appreciate the help.

"The Stampede Secret." Laura Childs is a pig farmer in
Canada with a love for the net. She spent countless hours
researching RSS, which I had only heard of but didn't
understand before her book arrived. Her e-book is
the best guide there is to by-passing spam filters
and cementing a relationship with your customers.

I just found out about this e-book and website. It sounds pretty
interesting, but I was just wondering if anyone has heard of this e-book
or read it yet? If so any comments on it?
Thanks Much!

|
|
Hi, Gary Gresham,
The RSS script of grabbing the content from the various website is hosted on my website. But it is not a weblog. It is just the latest news update. I know implementing a weblog can also improve visitors coming logging into the web diary. I have put temporary on hold because it requires a full-time administrator and editor to filter the content.
However, some web site have integrated both. Some goes to the extent of integrating RSS Feed into the email. Well, it is up to you to implement & split test.
Have Fun!

Hi Teo,
I see the difference now in an RSS feed and a blog. I know it makes sense to test and see which one does the best.
After all, that's what John says to do is test everything and who wouldn't listen to him?
I hate to admit it, but I never tested anything before John came along. It's like the light finally came on and now I'm finally starting to get why testing is critical in Internet marketing.
In other words, those who test make money. Those who don't, struggle and never know why.
I did find a goldmine of of information on Olga Farber Becker's site at: http://work-at-home.start-successful-business-online-in-48-hours.com/featured-articles.htm
I went back to John's other forum and remembered her excellent advice there.
I would suggest to anyone who wants to read quality articles to visit her site.
Thanks for the info, Teo.

Hi, Everybody,
Recently, I have tried out blogger.com and created http://TopSecretStrategy.BlogSpot.com and blog an article on the benefits on RSS. By linking this back to your own website, you get spidered by GOOGLE because Google recently just bought over them. I have also created an account at My.Yahoo.com and get a RSS feed from this very blog I created. I suspect YAHOO spider will begin visiting my Blog and my website.
Indirectly, I have combined the power of Blog externally & RSS internally on my site, with leveraged spidering from YAHOO & GOOGLE spiders, without building or hosting any Blog software. That's Great!
Have Great Fun!
Merry X'mas & Happy New Year!

Hi
I recently created a small 16 page report on creating an RSS feed for your web site in under 2 hours at zero cost.
This should clear most of your doubts about RSS and feed creation. Look for a secret trick that helps RSS directories and other search engines discover your feed easier and quicker.
