Well I'm back. For those of you who joined this community in the last few months, we probably don't know each other. I got diagnosed with a fairly unusual variety of bile duct cancer back in March of this year. We caught it very early because it blocked off the duct and turned me yellow not too long after it formed. I went into the hospital for what should have been a pretty big procedure and expected to be laid up for a few months. I took with me the prayers and kind thoughts of this group, which really helped me get ready to head into this ordeal. The thread is here (it's a bit aged so it's pretty far down):
http://forum.marketingsecrets.com/viewtopic.php?t=765&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

What I ended up with was a series of post-op infections that has had me in and out of the hospital 3 times since then, with various surgeries and treatments that I wouldn't wish on anyone. Two months after the first surgery, I had an emergency surgery that can only be described as a near death experience, seriously, I knocked on death's door and he had stepped out to pick up a pizza or something.

I have barely touched my computer for months until just a few weeks ago, because I have really only felt "back to myself" this past few weeks (not to mention all the time I spent in the hospital). Really, it's been the Google changes that were the lever to get me going again, so in a way I have to thank them (only kind of).

Now that I'm back to things, I wanted to say hi to everyone, and I wanted to throw out some random thoughts and thank you’s:

-God bless John Reese. I don't say this lightly. When I bought the Traffic Secrets course back in July 04 (on the Million Dollar Day) I was already full time online making what I am going to call "OK money". Not bad money, but it was not where I wanted or needed to be. I had never spent more than $50 on an info product before, and really thought that I had gone just plain crazy, but I got an email from Yanik Silver (God Bless him too, while I am under the hood because he has been a big force for good in my life) about the TS course, and everything just made sense and I bought it. So I just did what John talked about, applied it to what I was already doing, and by Jan 05 I was doing FOUR TIMES the business I was doing before. I can say with 100 percent certainty that this increase came from just applying what John was teaching. Not just the course, but the forums (this one and the private course-owners forum), and the calls, and The Reese Report, and the other products he introduced me to from time the time that I bought, and the other people like Frank Kern that he lead me too.

Plenty of people go through the same medical issues I have gone through, and they have to deal with money problems too. BECAUSE I BECAME A STUDENT OF JOHN REESE, I was spared this.

John was one of the first people who called my house and talked to my family when I went into the hospital. I'm going to cut myself off here on this, but believe me, when I am well enough to get to some of our industries seminars, I can't wait to meet John in person and shake his hand (there may be a man-hug involved, I wouldn't count it out).

-Alice Seba, what a sweetheart. She called me in the hospital, and at home, just to see how I was doing. I really like and respect Alice, and I can't wait to meet her in person too.

I'm going to throw a muzzle on myself, but let me leave you with this:

-Hug your family, especially your kids if they have not gotten too big to let you (or even if they have).

-Make sure you have health insurance, even if you can't afford it. My "private pay" plan costs me about $1500 a month (not because I got sick, it cost that before) for family coverage. They have laid out almost $600,000 (yes, that's six hundred grand) so far and I still have 5 weeks of chemo & radiation that I have not started yet because of the infections, so they are not done spending money on me yet. I'm serious, if you don't have health insurance you need to get some, even if you can't really afford it. Unless of course you live in a country with socialized medicine, which is a different rant altogether. I think everyone gets my drift on this.

-Build your online business like there is a shortage on tomorrows. I didn't realize how important this was, but now I sure do.

Thanks again to every single person who sent me their kind thoughts and prayers (whether they posted in that forum thread way back when or not). I truly appreciate every one of you, and I am glad to be back.

-Paul

Welcome back and thank you for the kinds words. I'm looking forward to meeting some day too - BS is coming soon, very very soon. Wink

You're story is definitely an inspiration to so many people and I'm glad you're sharing it. I've thought about my mortality, my health and other things that come up in life A LOT lately. I have to say that thanks to John as well, my business will go on, even when I can't. It feels great to know that I can provide for my family whether I'm in front of a computer or not.

And argh, the health insurance thing. That is incredible. I can't imagine spending that much money to just stay healthy. We definitely have our challenges in Canada, but it's good to know that medical care is much more accessible here.

Glad to see you're back at it and can't wait to see that big mouth in action!

Alice

Paul,

AWESOME. AWESOME. AWESOME.

We're all very glad to hear you are doing much better. And your outlook on life is fantastic. Keep up the great attitude and it will carry you very far.

And a sincere thanks for the kind words, I truly appreciate them. I actually considered retiring from the Internet marketing teaching market several times this year, but it's great customers like you that motivate and inspire me to keep teaching.

Welcome back Paul.

I´m sure near death will be the beginning of a new happier and much more fulfilling life. Although in many cultures death is not discussed the more we face it the more value and appreciation we have for our life.

I once worked with a guy who had sold life insurance in the past and he had some funny stories. Apparently one time he got an unusual objection from a prospect with no life insurance who said: "thanks but I don´t think we´ll need it!". Now, that´s what I call denial!

See you in the forum,

Pete

Hi Paul,

I was not a member of this forum when you first made your post, nor did I know about the enormity or viability of the world of internet marketing.

Reading through your post above and your initial thread I am touched, moved, shaken and reminded.

You have been through so much and you sound like such a wonderful, caring and positive man - I am sure these qualities and the love of your family and friends carried you through.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us and for the wonderful reminder of both what's important and also the impermanence of life and what we say we want we must action today - the power of now.

With Warmth

Caro Smile

Paul,

Happy to have you back. I started writing this post prior to anyone else posting and really couldn't put anything down.

Just happy to hear from you again!

Again, thanks everyone for the kind words and thoughts!

A quick semi-offtopic update on my situation. First off, I should have mentioned Frank Kern and Ed Dale in my list of teachers and mentors who have made my life better by touching it. I bought their Underacheiver system when it was first released, but didn't really get to do much with it until recently. I had listened to and read some of Frank's stuff, having been lead to him by John. He always made a lot of sense, and (like John) when he said "do this and you will probably make more money", that was amost always what happened. So spending around $1500 for the course didn't freak me out too badly, especially since John had already broken me in on the idea of buying big ticket info products...

It took me a while to get through the whole Underacheiver course, because it's a big box of stuff, much like Traffic Secrets, but I finally got through the 10 DVDs (1.5 hrs each). Then Frank & Ed pulled a dirty trick on everyone who bought the course: They sent a surprise bonus of 6 more DVD (1.5 hrs each) of a second Underacheivers seminar that they did, with special guest John Reese. Sneaky guys all of them, I never saw it coming. So I found time to get through those in the last few weeks, and just launched my first niche market info product (along with my first long form sales letter). It's mildly profitable at around one sale a day but I have not yet "Reesed it up" so I have higher hopes for it. I sell one $20 ebook for every about $5 in clicks I buy, I just have to buy more clicks is all.

Anyway, besides the step by step system they lay out for developing these niche market products, they both tend to go off on these little rants here and there about one aspect of internet marketing or another, or about life in general, which turned out to be my favorite part.

When Frank recently sent me a note about his upcoming seminar (37 seats at $10K a seat) I had to look at it and again say that every time he told me to do something and it would make me more money, that was what happened, so I took the plunge and I couldnt be more excited. I even got my doctor to rechedule my chemo therapy to I could take that as an off week. I cashed in some aging miles on American so I am flying free in First Class like a big shot, which is cool. I'm so excited about it, I just had tell someone (besides my mother, whose head would explode clean off her shoulder if she knew I was dropping that kind of bread on a seminar).

So I feel good, life is good, business is good, it's all good.
Hope you can say the same (really, I do)!

Paul,

Good to hear from you, I have also started working on my first UA product. I have not launched yet though.

When John puts his name behind something I listen and I agree with your statements about Frank Kern and Ed Dale.

Jason Potash's AA software was also recommended by John and I have discovered the power of article marketing which is helping drive a fair amount of free traffic to my "test" website.

The Reese Report is also something I really value. I have not had a chance to do 1/4 of what I want to do but a few of the ideas I have implemented have helped me out tremendously.

Congrats on going to Frank's seminar it looks like it is worth it. I am thinking of buying Jeff Walker's new product launch product, seems like it would be KILLER in niche markets.

Derrick
