I'd like to add to Alice's post though, that not all VAs are 'mommy VAs', i.e. not all are at home looking after young children, but have chosen to work at home using existing skills because the life/workstyle suits them better. Some VAs are men but the majority are women. Some are looking after elderly parents, others are not looking after anyone at all except that they want to work at home. So please do not assume that all VAs are 'mommies', although some are, but that shouldn't affect the professionalism of their work for any of their clients.

Hey Kathie,
I don't think I was implying that only "mommies" are VAs...nor was I suggesting that people only hire "mommies". The reason I put that list together is because I work with and mentor mothers on a daily basis. If I can help some of them get a little extra work -- then I'm certainly going to do that.
I'm sorry if you think I was trying to create a skewed picture of the VA industry. That certainly wasn't my intention. I'm just trying to help out my fellow mom and add some value to a forum in which I participate.

Alice, I realised that but thought that others reading it might not fully understand so thought I'd just add a bit more to what you had said.
I am a mommy - mother of 5, who were all home when I started almost 11 years ago. They're all grown up now and the benefits of them learning about work and business whilst seeing me work at home was an additional bonus. This would apply to anyone working at home, irrespective of their particular industry. But for the sake of others on this forum I just wanted them to know that not all VAs are mothers although a good percentage of them are.
