|
|
Hi - I built a 40 page content/adsense site (Im fairly new to web sites) and had it published approximately 10 weeks ago.
All my 40 odd pages are indexed in Google, Yahoo and MSN.
I have some really good rankings for some of my keyword phrases in MSN on pages 1 and 2 and am getting 'some' traffic - just 200 to 250 unique visitors per month - but all from MSN.
However, I don't seem to be ranked anywhere for my keyword phrases in Google or Yahoo. I read 'somewhere' that Google and Yahoo only update their rankings for keywords etc every few months or so. Obviosly I would like to get traffic from Google and Yahoo.
Is what I said above correct and should I just sit back and wait ?
How often do they update and when is the next update ?
How exactly does it work ?
I'm adding my site slowly to directories, have written an article and have added it to some article directories and am slowly trying to get backlinks, etc. I've also set up a free Wordpress blog.
Thanks for any information and advice.

I wouldn't say it updates every few months, but if you have a new site (or adding new pages to an existing site), it can take some time to start moving up in the ranks.
If you're getting traffic from MSN, you're doing something right. I wouldn't make any changes, but practice patience and start building more links into your site.
Good luck!

Hi Alice - thanks for your reply. It's a new site.
I'm very new to this so I hope I'm reading my Hostgator CPanel correctly. Do you know anywhere I can go that will give a full explanation of the various sections under my web site's "Statistics" ?
Some, of course, I can easily work out, but not all.
Thanks.

Yeap - Msn is normally the first to update, so Yahoo/Google should follow soon enough. Just keep doing what your doing - submitting to directories, posting blog comments and writing/submitting articles and you can't go far wrong. _________________ eBay Reviews | eBay Forum |

Yahoo and Google also offer paid inclusion programs to make sure your website gets indexed quicker. While I don't think its worth it on an ongoing basis, if you launch a site or make significant changes to it, it may be worth it.
Go to Google Adwords for details. |

There isn't an offical 'update' for google or yahoo. They are constantly updating rankings. I would imagine that your issue has to do with more your internal linking structure than anything else. If your pages are indexed, then the SE's have obviously found them so that's not your problem. A lot of those 2nd tier keywords will not need many links in order to come up highly in the SE's. A lot of times, the real niche keywords can come up when you pass your PR off your sites homepage to your secondary pages. That way you are telling the SE what your 2nd tier pages are all about i.e. link reputation. Its never a bad idea to get links to important interior pages as well.
Most people improve their internal linking by adding text footing with the correct anchor text to the bottom of their home page. And, more importantly, they only link to the important 2nd tier pages and not the privacy policy.
When I added text links to the footer of my pages, I saw a very big jump in those pages getting ranked in the SE. That might be all you need. |

google has the sandbox effect, where your site has to be aged a bit... just to filter out the spam, overnight, sites.
If you want traffic NOW, try doing some PPC. _________________ Affiliate Bling - Affiliates Earn Up to $30 Per Sale. Websites Include: Paid to Play Video Games, Perform Background Searches, more, Free PPC Credit |

Neither Google nor Yahoo allow you to pay to be indexed in their organic rankings. Yahoo accepts payment for possible listings in their directory at http://dir.yahoo.com and for their PPC ads that are alongside the organic listings. Google accepts PPC ads in their Adwords program at http://adwords.google.com.
You can't pay either site for faster organic rankings. _________________ The Blog | The FAQ |

Yahoo does have a paid inclusion program actually. It gives you quick inclusion into the search results plus spidering every 48 hours. Its a ripoff though, get enough links and change your content enough you can get spidered every hour. Getting into a 20million site database isn't going to do anybody any good.
