recently decided to check out Dragon Naturally Speaking, which is a voice recognition software. Overall has improved my efficiency. Every once in a while I get some errors, the software trains itself the more use it the more accurate it gets. I going to be using this more frequently to improve productivity. Has anyone else here tried such software?

Hi Derrick,

I tried a voice recognition package (it was an IBM-branded product but I can't recall the name now) a few years back. I was quite impressed with the accuracy but every now and again it would throw up a really weird word. Maybe it was my accent - although it did 'learn' over time. This meant that I had to check everything very carefully which also meant that I was giving up some of the time saved.

The other issue was that background noise tended to cause problems. If the first wife happened to be singing (boy that's streching the interpretation of that noise she used to make) in the kitchen it would run interference. It also meant that I couldn't listen to the radio or my CDs.

I just learned to type faster.

Hi,

Derrick, i got a text reader called Textaloud. I find it very useful while reading. I'm a slow reader and read carefully to find hidden or implied meaning. I take even weeks to read a single book at times.

This software has helped me to reduce that to a few hours. Now i can read and hear things at same time grasping better and faster.

I did try speech recognition but didn't get it to work for me. May be due to Indian accent.

Rds,
Ashish Jain

I have Dragon Naturally Speaking and I wanted to use it to create ebooks and such, but I didn't use it that much. I find I put my thoughts together better in writing and I type a gazillion words per minute. That's just me. Wink

I think it's great software through. Huge training time, but once you've got it...it's pretty impressive.
