Why Firefox...WHY?

I hate Firefox, but I love Tabbed Browsing, which is why Maxthon is my browser of chioice. It's based on the IE engine (but you can switch in an instant to Gecko, i.e., Firefox/Mozilla engine), and it had TONS of plugins. It was recommended by my friend Jason Cain, and I'm in love with it.

I used to really like firefox... until their recent update. For me, after the recent update it "stalls" on virtually every password login and it has become very frustrating. To compensate, I recently installed netscape and it seems to be working just as well as firefox USED TO in regards to blocking popups, etc. Plus, much to my surprise, it has tabbed browsing as well. I dislike the interface, but apart from that it's great.

I gave Firefox an honest effort after having many people recommend it. I downloaded it, installed a few add-ons and was trying to determine why people liked it so much.

I kept finding myself going back to old faithful IE all the time because I didn't like what Firefox was doing to my surfing (pages looking screwie, slow downloads, blocking stuff when I didn't want it to, etc).

I uninstalled in about 2 weeks ago and have no plans on bringing it back.

I think it is more for those techie people who despise microsoft for whatever reason. For daily ease of use, I still like IE best. Don't know what's wrong with these other people, Alice I'm with you on this one Smile

Yup, which is why I LOVE http://Maxthon.com (it's actually version 3.0, a rename of the older MyIE and MyIE2, which comes with tons of plugins, tab choices, and automatic Gecko/IE engine switching -- Gecko is the engine behind Firefox and Netscape/Mozilla).

Bottom line, if you like IE, but like tabbed browsing as with Firefox, then Maxthon is perfect.

If you want tabbed browsing with IE try Avant Browser. It's free, loads up SO much faster than IE and it's got RSS reader built in too. It's based on IE so you gotta have that to run it *I think* http://www.avantbrowser.com/

I'm with Lynette - Avant is my favorite and I've used it for quite some time now.

I think Firefox is a pain in the rear with all the plugins and such. Just give me a nice end product that has most of the features I could want. I don't want to have to install a ton of plugins to make it as good as another product that already has the feature sets built in.

I'm also kinda getting tired of everyone saying that Firefox is more "secure". Most people who know that Firefox is more secure also know that it doesn't really matter because they already have a firewall, antivirus and the latest MS updates which is all you need to stay secure - unless ya'll know something about internet security I don't know. I'd love to know if I'm missing something there.

Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox, now! Sorry!

I'm going to look at Maxthon, now, too. Mr. Fortin has put up a good sales pitch for it.

Most people thing a computer is plug and play then dont worry about it.

Look how many people do not secure their wireless router. I could drive around my local city with my laptop and never need to pay for internet again.

Well I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, but I like Firefox too!

But I still have to keep a copy of IE handy for all those websites that don't work with Firefox Sad

Kind of ironic that I still have to use 2 browsers when one is supposed to replace the other.

One of the biggest reasons I like Firefox is how it displays the cookies that are set. This is SO handy when I am testing my PHP products. IE just shows one big long list, and you can't easily see what the values are.

Firefox lists everything so nicely. Also you have a lot more control over individual iframes and such, for viewing the source code, etc...

One thing that took some getting used to was how Firefox will share session cookies with every browser window open on your computer. IE only shares session variables with windows that are related to each other. In other words, if you open a new IE window from Start >> Programs, it will not use any session variables from other IE windows currently open.

This probably doesn't mean a hill of beans to most of you, but for developers this is a huge difference. You can't have multiple sessions with the same site at the same time with Firefox, but you can with IE.

That's just my opinion coming from a developer's point of view, but I really do like Firefox!
