Hi, Adi ..
An affiliate program is a way for merchants to take on promotional partners that are paid to refer prospects to the merchant's wares.
Most affiliate programs pay by the click, lead, or sale of the specific product in question.
Affiliate programs are a great way for the merchant to leverage their reach and exposure ... and they only have to reward the affiliate when the agreed task listed above has been accomplished (sort of like having a group of commissioned salespeople).
The affiliate gets to promote an established merchant's products without the hassle of merchant responsibilities ... they just have to spread the word, whether it be simply placing a text or banner link on their site or in their newsletter ... all the way up to creating an entire venture based on it.
You might want to start by simply choosing a merchant that offers goods and services that compliment your offerings ... find out what your successful competitors are promoting for ideas on what to choose.
Let me know if you need me to further elaborate.
Much success,
