INxS is the new sensation...
One of the worlds best rock bands from the '80s who snuffed out "disco" and called their bluff... the same rock band who engineered a bridge for punk but settled for grunge, is back. INxS is now looking for a lead singer in Rock Star: INxS... A New Reality Show. folks, dis aint no 'merican idol.

LOL - I watched it yesterday and it was remarkably similar to American Idol. Yawn.

For those of you who don't know, I'm in the music business, so here is some behind the scenes stuff...
A few months ago, I got a call from one of the producers of Mark Burnett Productions, the company behind the show. He was looking for singers to attend a "closed-door" audition made up of singers who had been recommended by industry people.
I sent him the very best singer I've ever seen...a cross between Corey Glover of Living Colour, Terence Trent D'arby, and Rob Halford of Judas Priest.
Nothing...
They contacted a lot of industry folks, so tons of the best singers came from around the country to try out. Nothing...
My guess is that they didn't really want a good singer. What makes good TV and what makes a good singer (or "rockstar") are two totally different things.
It's my opinion that this show is all about good television, one of the guys is a ringer (I'll let you guess which one), and that the whole thing is rigged.
I know the A&R person who discovered INXS and brought them to the US. I'll be doing an interview with her for my radio show soon to talk about this and more. When I do, I'll post it here.
And speaking of Terence Trent D'arby...he toured with INXS shortly after Hutchence died and I thought he was a kick ass replacement. _________________ FREE 25 PLR Articles

Thanks for giving us an industry insider's opinion, David ... very interesting.
Terence has the kind of sexual, slinky style, delivery, and stage presence that would interpret INXS's catalog well, I imagine ... having personally missed his renditions (though Michael will never truly be 'replaced').
Thanks ... again,

Caught the performance of Ty Taylor (black guy with mohawk) and was blown away. This guy can sing!! Did a little research on him and he has had a career on Broadway, including the lead in Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat.
BY FAR the most powerful singer on the show. I would watch it just to see/hear him.
Not the ringer I mentioned, so now I'm a bit confused... _________________ FREE 25 PLR Articles

My thoughts...
Hutchence joined the band after they were already going. These guys have a right to make a living, so I can't fault them for doing so. _________________ FREE 25 PLR Articles

I am not to sure about replacing a lead singer for a band like INXS. Then again I said the same thing about Van Halen the first time they dumped a lead singer and ended up thinking it was a good move on their part.
There are definitely a couple of real talents on that show. If I were to have to guess the ringer right now I would go that J.D. guy. From what I hear he has been rocking the Canadians for awhile now doing stadium shows none-the-less.

I think they may pull a AI money grab scheme and possibly tour with say.... the top 2 finalists?
In my opinion - Jordis and JD Fortune has a lock on this as the top 2 and INxS may possibly tour with both.... maybe wishful thinking.
Jordis... singing "The man who sold the world"? wow... stimulating _________________ Linkogle - Social Bookmark Manager

I really appreciate your insights David.
While I lived in BC I was very close to working with 'Turtle', the studio that once produced for Sarah McLauchlin. I have recently been asked to help market another singer and wondered how you felt about using direct mail/direct response marketing to market an artist.
I would really appreciate hearing your thoughts.
As for Rock Star INXS. I do love the show. There does seem to be atleast one performance per show that I really do like, plus I have a heart for an artist trying to make his/her way, thus my will to help market one.
Ty is excellent and I feel like Marty is 'almost there.' If Marty were to put out a CD I'd buy it.
And for those who aren't Canadian and like this genre of music, "The Tragically Hip" is a phenomenol Canadian band. It'd be interesting to hear what Alice and Mika think of "The Hip."
I'll be seeing them live with the Rolling Stones in Moncton, NB in Sept.
By the way, Fortin plays in a Hip coverband.

Hope to have that interview on Podcast soon. If you're interested in this (or other music business info), put http://feeds.feedburner.com/MusicBusinessRadio in your Podcast client and it will come through automatically.
Or hit www.musicbusinessradio.com for more info.
As for direct marketing with music, that's very smart. Knew one band with 5,000,000 downloads on mp3.com who was signed to a major label only to sell 10,000 copies of their records...and much of that was thanks for a major radio push and video. They couldn't market to the 5,000,000 who had gotten them the deal though since they hadn't collected contact info. _________________ FREE 25 PLR Articles
