Hi there.

I've been assessing the IM scene and trying to locate where my skills would fit in.

I have a B.A. in literature, so I can write, leading me to the conclusion that penning niche ebooks and flogging them through a joint venture (and my own opt-in list) could be a profitable way forward.

Now. I've also reflected on what subjects I'm knowledgable in. Weight loss seems to be my primary niche. Some friends and many anonymous forum members have told me (and shown me) how I helped turn their life around through my unique method of losing weight (hint: it's all mental, not a practical plan).

I'm wondering whether a book geared towards altering the mindset in regards to weight loss would be a good sub-niche in a saturated market. And, if so, do you guys have any tips on how I should approach the JV big boys without any kind of pedigree in IM?

Thanks for any pointers!

I think the most important thing about developing (or promoting others') products around any niche is having an intense passion yourself. Sounds like you have that covered, and it also sounds like you have some testimonials just waiting to happen.

I would contact these people and offer them a complimentary copy of the product, in exchange for their testimonial. Tell them you only want their testimonial if it has truly made a difference in their lives, not just for "good publicity".

As for contacting the "big guys" - as this is very important...
The well known marketers are inundated with offers almost every day. However, the best way to develop a business relationship is to develop a personal one first. And the best way to do that is to meet them, face to face, at a live seminar. I personally know this from experience.

For your particular niche - and only if you have the guts to do this - I would, after developing a personal relationship first (before you offend someone!), you might try asking one of your new contacts, that you've noticed might benefit from your product, to try it out. Now, I'm not saying to go befriend someone because they're out of shape Very Happy - I'm just saying that JV relationships always blossom from personal relationships. And personal relationships take time, just like you would never ask someone to marry you on the first date.

Hope all that was of help! - DJ Dave

Thanks Dave, that was an immense help!

I'm not even sure that one would need to be "out of shape" in order to get use from or appreciate the book. I think the message the book gets across could just as easily be applied to any area of one's life; it just so happens that I developed this formula as I was trying to lose weight and I don't want to go for a particularly broad "beat procrastination" theme. I'd be happy to send it to anyone of status without an obligation to JV or throw down a testimonial, but just for some private constructive criticism (when it's done!)

As for networking...well, this is something I was looking to tackle in the future. I'm still getting off the ground in IM and spend just about every waking hour working at it. I can't see myself getting to seminars anytime soon, simply because of the learning curve workload and the lack of surplus funds. So I guess I'm really hoping you can give a few online networking pointers? If not, I'll save what I have and see if I can get to a seminar here in the UK!

Thanks again Smile

You mentioned you are in the UK... so this may not be beneficial.

But keep me in the roster if you start developing reports, ebooks and other quality resources for the weight loss niche. One of my marketing affiliations is with a cleansing program (namely targetted as weight loss though seeing as that's the visual side benefit... see BeachSeason2006.com).

If I can setup a squeeze page (which requires a quality report) and run PPC ads that then direct the person through an autoresponder of quality education about weight loss (possibly from the mental perspective but then also from the "root cause" or cleansing perspective) then I can create even more automation with this. However, I don't know how you would benefit in this (again since you are in the UK).

But think it over and if you find a partnership in there (or possibly to release your new ebook announcement to my current client mailing list)... then let me know.

All the best,

From what I have read here I wonder why you don't want to develop your own content rich website and apply all the IM tools you have learned. Why do you want to go through JV? Why do you not want to make the jump yourself? If you enjoy writing - you have certainly won half the battle... I am just interested in how you plan to go forward with that...

Surprised
