Nowadays a blog is already almost an old hat. Lots of people have one, but still, I think most don't use it properly.
Blogs are ideal to get your messages delivered and even more important to develop a relationship with your audience, which is absolutely crucial to assure long-term success for your online biz.
Many people (myself included) start a blog, post a few messages and then stop providing valuable information. With a blog, you won't reap the fruits of your efforts immediately. It can take months, a year or even longer, but if you keep on providing great stuff - again and again - the final rewards will easily compensate the initial effort: You get people to trust you, they recommend you, buy your products...
After all, I think 3-4 posts / week are enough and that shouldn't take more than an hour/week - not really a big deal for what you'll get in return.
Anyway, I guess you're doing some research, education... on your niche topic, so whenever you find some golden nuggets, just post it on your blog.
Do you have any great tips to share on how to make blogging more effective?
Thanks.

I use both forums and blogs. A forum is a challenge to really get going. A blog is out there and even if you don't get a lot of comments, your good content is out there.
For me, forums are just a community-building device, but you have WAY more control over your marketing with a blog.
Here's an excerpt from something I wrote when someone asked about blogs vs. message board (I'm too lazy to retype!
):
| myself wrote: | A blog keeps you in control of discussion, but with a message board, your members will guide discussions and though you can have posting rules, discussions can go in all kinds of directions. If you are looking to establish your own expertise and influence your visitor's buying decisions, a blog is a more powerful tool. If you are looking for creating a sense of community and give your regular visitors a chance to express themselves, you can still do that with a blog by allowing comments -- but a message board allows this more readily.
But a word of caution - Getting your message board really active can prove to be quite a challenge. If your website is new and you're just starting to build your mailing list, you may want to hold off on starting the message board. You could start a blog now and guage your visitor response and participation to see when it might be time to start a message board. |
